hypnotism
George asked:

HYPNOTIC RELAXATION

**************************** Hypnotic psychotherapy is the oldest of all psychotherapies. People who even not hear the name of hypnotism may be well versed with the name “hypnotism”. This is because of the visual medias, which presented hypnotic seen. We should say that the concept of hypnotic therapy and hypnotizing are most misunderstood among all other psychotherapies because of the afore said reason; but it is very effective way to remove problems in the subconscious and I would like to mention here what is the effect of hypnotic suggestions. Two cases of hypnotic induction in my clinic and different methods people use under this broad connotation of hypnotism are also mentioned.

What is hypnotism?

————————-

We know that man has given special inherent qualities than all other living beings, which are, intellectual ability, morality and will power. These qualities help man to aim at and to work for the betterment of others, for the betterment of living beings, and for the nature in which we live. To join together for the common welfare, give suggestions for that and act according to a direction for more goodness. In this we have said, give suggestions, wishfully at for the betterment and join together, all these are in a way foundations of hypnotism. Bernheim says”[Bernheim(1957),Suggestive therapies, Westport.] “I define hypnotism as the introduction of a peculiar physical condition which increases the susceptibility to suggestion”. The hypnotic form is again called alternative form of consciousness. This alternate form of consciousness is very similar to sleep. So we call it as hypnotic sleep.

Imagine a small child sleep when she hears her mother singing. In the song of the mother the child get a suggestion to sleep. In the song of the mother the child get a suggestion to sleep. And this suggestion may not be that much effective in the child while she hears other person singing. Imagine a situation while you go to church. There the preacher is delivering a monotonous and dull message. You may start sleeping. Why you are sleeping? You may tell that one may sleep while he is tired. This is not applicable to a person who hears a message in the church. Here the person who sleeps is a passive hearer only. He has no involvement and this makes him feel boring. So he tells himself that you have nothing to do and the message is boring so you sleep. This is self hypnosis. You may have experienced that you have to go to a distant place early in the morning. You will adjust alarm of the clock and sleep, but before you hear the sound of alarm you may rise up. Here in all this we see the effect of self-hypnosis.

In a hypnotic treatment session the therapist and the client enters in to a deep and special kind of relationship. In psychotherapy this kind of relationship is called the therapeutic relationship.

We need sleep and at the time of our sleep our body and mind are relaxed. The rapid eve movement stage [REM sleep] or the dream stage is the time when our mind is being relaxed. At the time of dream feelings in our subconscious moves to the conscious. This is done not as the direct image. Thing is that in that way our emotions are relaxed and that is what happening in the hypnotic relaxation too.

There may be people who suspect that this is against to the Christian faith. The work of Jesus Christ can be divided as, preaching, teaching and healing. Those who came with physical problems to Christ went back healed not only physically but psychologically and spiritually too. Jesus taught, “Everything is possible to those who believe”.

Before going deep into the concept of hypnotism I should narrate one or two examples and this will help you to understand the therapy. Names and situations I tell here are different.

Case1: -

Saji 23 years old was bright in his high school class but he failed in BSC[degree class]. His parents scolded him for the same reason. Once one of his friends ridiculed him and for this they quarreled each other. When his parents’ heard about this they questioned. Saji wanted to have a job, but he couldn’t find. Once his father had a quarrel with his neighbor and this ended in physical aggression. Saji intervened in the fight. So he became guilty of the act that made a change in his behavior. Aggressive nature and sudden retaliation, all gave him a bad name. Slowly he lost his sleep. Once he felt as if his right arm and leg paralyzed. He couldn’t walk or do anything without the help of others. Treatment in different places made no good. Then his parents brought him for a prayer meeting that a minister prays for him. I was there and they requested me to talk to him. We talked and gave him a hypnotic relaxation. As O. Anna patient of J. Bruer and S. Freud said, “this was a talking cure” Saji also got a talking cure from the same conversion hysteria. Even in the first session we got a sign of cure.

Case2: -

Emily 27 years is unmarried and sometimes she feels difference in her body and mind. When this occurs she forgets everything even her name. It happened that a long time back a women who was neighbor of her expired and Emily says in her trance that she is the died person. Amnesia problem makes her forget certain things. Her neighbors told that this is because of evil spirit and this worsens her problem. Her marriage proposals are cancelled. By hypnotism she got above the problems and cured.

We can say that people under go hypnotism can be categorized in to three groups 1. The first group remembers everything that happened in the session. Every suggestion is remembered. 2. The second group does not remember everything but they will say that they heard the therapists talk. 3. The third group may no5t be able to remember what is happened in the session. In my experience some clients express indifference at the first stage and then go in to the sleep. We cannot hypnotize 100% people. To my understanding there are three kind of hypnotic relaxation programme.

1. Mental Relaxation Programme[Mass Relaxation]

In prayer, meditation, or mass hypnotism therapists, religious leaders or experienced persons do this. They give suggestion to one person or a group of people to boost mental energy and or spiritual energy. In different religions people use it in different way.

2. Hypnotic Treatment.

Here a therapist comes to an agreement with a client to help him in his discomfort, adopt techniques of personal hypnotism for the betterment of the client. Mostly this is treatment based.

3. Past Life Regression Therapy.

This is in the style of hypnotic therapy, but most religions do not agree with this practice. In this, a therapist act as a medium and he leads the client to arouse his psychic level to enter into a mind vibration of a person lived long ago. Then the client identifies himself with that person to find answer to his questions of maladjustment. The therapist explains that the maladjustment is because of those person’s vibrations. This is not advisable as far as I understand this therapy. This is based on the “karma” theory of Hinduism.

Hypnotism has immense potentials. So we can use it and develop it, by continuous research. Systematic mass relaxation programme is very good and it can be used by different religions for spiritual and mental awakening.

Audrey Lynn asked:

IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome affects over 25 million people in the USA. Contrary to popular belief, IBS is actually a very common disorder which is classed by the medical profession as a ‘functional disorder’ – in other words there’s nothing medically or organically wrong with the body. Generally, conventional treatments often do not work very well and IBS sufferers often feel that their symptoms are being ignored, downplayed or misunderstood. Besides that, IBS is a multifactorial illness which means that there are many causes. As a result of that, it is difficult to pinpoint the accurate treatment. Fortunately, IBS is not fatal nor is it linked to the development of other serious bowel diseases. However, IBS can bring about extremely frustrating and disturbing and often embarrassing experience to the sufferers. More and more IBS sufferers are opting for more natural home remedies and self help. One of the treatments which is gaining much popularity is hypnotherapy for IBS. In this article, we look at what hypnotherapy is and its effect on IBS.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy using hypnosis not only to alleviate symptoms but often to uncover the cause of the problem which can be corrected thus ensuring a complete and permanent cure. Hypnotherapy is used as a way to make people more aware of their bodies so that they may have better control over their general functioning. However, this therapy is not suitable for children aged under five or anyone with a severe mental illness. Hypnotherapy is the process whereby you become deeply or lightly relaxed, guided by words, phrases, suggestions and imagination. Hypnotherapy is usually carried out one-to-one with a trained and trusted hypnotherapist in a therapeutic setting, but it may also take place in small groups, for example in pain or antenatal clinics. However, these days, many people prefer to buy ibs hypnosis tapes or CDs to listen in the comfort of their own homes. IBS hypnosis are available as downloads on the internet as well.

So how does IBS hypnotherapy helps sufferers to alleviate IBS symptoms?

Hypnotherapy is beneficial not only for the relaxation it induces, but for the state of suggestibility that characterizes it. Hypnotherapy can reduce this stress and its resultant negative impact by placing you in a deeply relaxed state, promoting positive thoughts and coping strategies, and clearing your mind of negative attitudes. Hypnotherapy induces a state of relaxation while the patient is awake, and allows helpful suggestions such as those aimed at controlling health problems to be directed into the subconscious mind.

Many studies have shown that hypnotherapy is indeed effective in improving both symptoms and quality of life in patients with IBS. What is more important is hypnotherapy offer sufferers a drug-free solution to their symptoms of diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and bloating. Hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure: rather it is a state of awareness that can be used for self-help. Hypnotherapy is time-consuming and it does take quite a bit of time to actually feel the effect. But to many sufferers, persistense pays off.

In conclusion, IBS hypnotherapy is recommended by authority IBS sites such as IBSTales.com. It has claimed over 80% success rate for alleviating all IBS symptoms. IBS hypnotherapy has been researched for 30 years and stands alone as the most significant long term symptom relief solution. Hypnotherapy has in fact proven highly effective in alleviating all of the various IBS symptoms. If nothing has work for you, why don’t you give IBS hypnotherapy a try?

Richard Mackenzie asked:

Motivation is the key to positivity in our lives. If we were not motivated enough, we would just not have the will in us to go about our daily lives. Its motivation that helps us get through the most mundane things – motivation for working harder, motivation to have a healthy relationship, motivation to earn more, motivation to have a happy family. And yet sometimes we find ourselves lacking in motivation; I think we have all had days when getting out of bed to get ready to go to work seemed like a Herculean task. Sometimes lack of motivation can really bring people down, and hinder their efficiency and ability. This may lead to frustrations and further breakdown of communication between people. However, if you intercept this lack of motivation timely, you have help at hand. Go for hypnotherapy for motivation to get the zest in life back.

Hypnotherapy is intrinsically related to the concept of motivation, and can help you in every walk of life. From motivation in sports, to business; from quitting smoking to losing weight, hypnotherapy for motivation could help you out. But here’s the catch: you can think of successfully motivating yourself only once you have your goals identified. Identification of a goal is very necessary before you start motivating yourself. Motivation is all about helping you realize your true potential, sometimes this potential gets thwarted by certain experiences in our lives. Hypnotherapy for motivation works towards removing those mental blockages by connecting with your subconscious.

Hypnotherapy is based on the formula of auto suggestion, and it works on deeper levels than one can imagine. Hypnotherapy for motivation converses with your subconscious mind, and urges it to alter self-perception and self – image. Unknown to us, our subconscious is largely responsible for the way we think and react; if we train it to think on a different line, no doubt the accompanying behavior would change too. It understands the true potential that lies within us, and taps into it. Through gentle affirmations such as “I can do it”, it retrains your mind into believing that nothing is impossible.

In my practice at Oxfordshire, I have helped clients deal with a variety of issues through hypnotherapy for motivation. Some wanted to perform better at work, while others needed motivation to keep a relationship going. Some wanted to perform better at sports, while others at studies. The underlying theory of hypnotherapy is based on motivation, and we need it in every walk of life. However, we need to have our goals clear in our minds for the hypnotherapy to be successful. Hypnotherapy for motivation lets you focus on the particular task at hand, however if the task is undefined, hypnotherapy will be rendered ineffective.

Hypnotherapy for motivation can seem to be too simple a solution for these problems; however you will be surprised at their effectiveness. Once you started this journey of self discovery, you will see the changes in a short time. Through altering self-perception and self-image, hypnotherapy gives you a whole new view of the world. From being a procrastinating person, you can go on to become a self starter. So define your goals now, and dive into the vast sea of your subconscious mind through hypnotherapy. The pearls you will find there will take care of every situation and possibility in life. Happy Self Discovery!

Karen Hastings, Edinburgh asked:

Misconceptions about hypnotherapy are common, even among clients who attend hypnotherapy Edinburgh. Most likely, this misunderstanding originates from the mostly unethical use of hypnosis as a form of entertainment on stages and television. Hypnosis used in this way has led to many a myth such as only gullible people can be hypnotized and hypnosis can make you lose control or go mad. Whilst it appears that people on such shows seem to be under the control of the hypnotist, they are not. Rather, they are suggestible and willing to play along with the hypnotist (within reason, a person wouldn’t carry out an act they strongly disagreed with). They are also likely to be responding to social pressure and expectations of the audience.

So what Is Hypnosis and How Is It Used in Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a state characterized by intense relaxation and heightened awareness or focus. Relaxing in this way allows the mind to become detached from everyday worries and hassles (a bit like having a good fantasy!). Hypnotherapists agree that whilst you are relaxed during the hypnotic state, it is possible to access the unconscious part of your mind in order to creatively find solutions to problems. This is possible because your analytical, critical, anxious conscious mind can be bypassed. Whilst in a relaxed hypnotic state the unconscious mind can respond in an open and curious way to imagery and suggestion.

Hypnosis is a state that allows you to focus and concentrate. Hypnotherapy, Edinburgh uses this state to allow you to let positive changes happen as opposed to trying to make them happen consciously. Hypnotherapy enables you to solve problems, reduce stress, change habits and achieve aims.

I am a mental health professional and I use hypnotherapy Edinburgh as a tool to empower people who find that their conscious attempts to solve a problem are not working. Using hypnotherapy, can enable you to understand and overcome problems that are outside of conscious awareness. For some, this method is far more effective then trying to use willpower alone.

So What Is Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy Not?

1. Hypnosis is not sleep but an intense relaxed state in which you are fully aware. Therefore there is no risk of you not waking up as your not asleep.

2. Hypnosis is not mind control, the hypnotherapist will guide you but cannot make you act against your will.

3. Hypnosis is not for gullible people. Anyone that wants to be hypnotized can be. It is only difficult to hypnotize someone who is scared of hypnosis or who doesn’t really want to be hypnotized.

4. Hypnotherapy is not a magical treatment that works instantly. Often you will require several sessions to learn to relax and to work through your problem. It is not instant.

5. Hypnosis cannot make you divulge private information that you want to keep to yourself. You will only share with your therapist what you want to.

For some people, hypnotherapy can be an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable method for making changes and learning to relax. It would be a shame to let tall tales about hypnotherapy put you off from finding out more about this treatment and how it may be able to help you.

Richard Mackenzie asked:

Let’s begin by counting how many times you got angry today. Did you honk a tad bit extra to get people out of your way as you were late to work? Did you throw a fit because your kid wouldn’t have his glass of milk, and you wondered “Why God, why me?” Were you upset because your spouse spent the evening at work, and missed your dinner date? Little things seem to irk you beyond belief, you feel like the universe is conspiring against you. You think Murphy’s laws were written keeping you as the example. Life seems exasperating, and the only way to get through to people is to shout and scream. Hold on! Let’s dwell over this for a while. Have you wondered what you could be doing to your poor little heart while you fume and fret? Have you wondered what the constant anger and irritability could do to people who interact with you or worse still share close relationships with you? From Ms Congeniality to Ms Brutality, is not a very long journey to make once you have gotten into the habit of seeing red for things both big and small. Its time you took control of it, and turned to hypnotherapy for anger management to help you see colours other than red.

Anger has far reaching consequences, which we never think of when overpowered by it. Anger can not just ruin relationships, but also your health. Heart attacks, high blood pressure, prematurely ageing skin, digestive problems are all connected to the anger which is seething in you. When you go through a bout of anger, your voice is raised, the nerves in your body tense, the heart beats faster but it doesn’t pump efficiently which could lead to damage of the arteries at a later stage, and of course risk a stroke. On the other hand, constant anger could be damaging to your relationships; you could alienate your spouse, you could damage your kid’s personality at a subconscious level, you could lose out on important projects at work, and generally start being avoided by people. Stop and think, is this really worth it? Chances your answer will be negative. If it is, then let me tell you how hypnotherapy for anger management could help.

Hypnotherapy for anger management helps convert the negative energy you have into something positive. This can be effectively achieved through harnessing the anger and channelsing it elsewhere. Yes, anger is a raw emotion and can be put to good use if handled in the right manner. More than treating a person with an anger problem like someone who is far gone, hypnotherapy for anger management nips the destructive emotions in the bud. Prevention is better than cure, goes the old adage, and hypnotherapy does just that. Through working on your subconscious, hypnotherapy takes care of the triggers which cause anger. It teaches you to be calmer and more relaxed, and this takes care of any situations which might have flared you up earlier. You will look at things in a different light, and make light of the situations which angered you before.

Hypnotherapy works on the same underlying value as anger. When you are angry you are in a trance of sorts, no amount of reasoning can pull you out of it; you stop listening to the other person and only believe in what you have to say. Hypnotherapy is a trance like state too; the difference being that here it is positivity that you lose yourself in.

So, its time you stopped seeing red, because hypnotherapy for anger management will help you realize that there are other colors in the rainbow too!

Michelle Beaudry asked:

Hypnosis: so easy, you do it with your eyes closed.

Fundamentals of the Mind

The human mind may be subdivided into three parts: the Unconscious, Subconscious and Conscious. These compare to a computer:

Unconscious = operating system

Subconscious = hard drive

Conscious = RAM

Each part has separate and distinct tasks.

The Unconscious mind operates your automatic body systems such as the circulatory system, much as a computer’s operating system includes its basic functions. The Subconscious mind operates like a hard drive by storing files of all kinds, from a full memory bank of your past to your emotional spectrum, to its most vital task: protecting you at all costs. The Conscious mind is our everyday mind, making immediate day to day decisions like what to wear, eat, and drink. It is the gatekeeper, choosing what information is to be acted upon moment by moment. It’s the mind you’re reading this book with right now, and its tasks include comparing, reasoning, and explaining. These abilities are called the Critical Factor and are bypassed in hypnosis.

Importance of the Subconscious Mind

To update a file on your computer, you must open the original file and make the changes. In the human mind, original files are stored in the Subconscious. To gain access, we must reach the Subconscious directly, bypassing the Conscious mind. In other words, one way to gain positive changes in the present is to neutralize the negativity in the past. We do not change the memories, we upgrade how you feel about them. This upgrading can only be accomplished in the Subconscious, for that is where memories are stored, and it can only be reached through bypass of the Conscious mind, and that can only be done through hypnosis. Why? It’s what works. Hypnosis specifically sets the Conscious mind aside temporarily.

Your Mind Must Protect You; Good News, Bad News

All levels of your mind work to protect you as best they can at all times. And this especially applies to the Subconscious. It must protect you at all costs, and to do so, it may even lie to you, or more to the point, to your Conscious mind. It may lie about you, about others, it may even lie to your hypnotist while you are in trance. It may hide memories from you. And much, much more. This is because once it accepts negative behaviors in the name of your safety, it hangs on to those behaviors. Some examples are:

•smoking anything

•being obese

•declining success

•biting your fingernails

•spending compulsively

You may well ask, how can compulsive spending possibly protect me? It distracts you. Misdirection is one highly effective way your Subconscious protects you by keeping a lid on overwhelming emotions. Ergo the addict. You may well ask, how can declining to be successful possibly protect me? It limits you. Limiting exposure to risk is another way to protect you. It is when such protective efforts do not meet your current needs that you desire change. Hypnosis sets aside the Conscious mind, makes changes via the Subconscious mind, and change is achieved.

How Hypnosis Upgrades Your Files

Hypnosis is able to change your perception of your memories, and thus of yourself. We do not change the events themselves, we upgrade how you feel about them, and thus your daily life is upgraded. By accessing the original files stored in the Subconscious, you are able to see all of the reasons why your mind specifies your behaviors in the name of protecting you, and together we upgrade those behaviors since, typically, the need of that protection is gone. You are no longer in the middle of the event that had such impact on you. Your Conscious mind does not have complete access to your memory files; that is not its job. This is why merely talking about change is such an ineffective means of getting any. Talking happens in the Conscious mind. Change happens in the Subconscious. And here’s the rub: the Subconscious outvotes the Conscious mind. It is far, far larger, stronger, and more powerful. This is why willpower fails so miserably for the dieter. Unless the Subconscious agrees to a healthy diet and a normalized body weight, your finest of intentions are shortlived, having been overridden by the Subconscious mind.

Emotions

Emotions are a function of, and are stored in, the Subconscious. When you have had an emotional reaction to danger, for example, real or imagined, those emotions are felt and stored in your Subconscious. Hypnosis accesses those stored emotions, upgrades your perception of them, and results in changed behavior. You must give yourself permission to make changes. You must want to change. You must want to enter into hypnosis. And this means not being afraid of hypnosis. So, let’s define what hypnosis is in several ways, as there is no single perfect way to phrase it.

What Hypnosis Is

•“Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor of the conscious mind combined with the establishment of selective thinking,” says the US Government.

•Hypnosis is a blend of physical relaxation and extreme mental alertness. Yes, I said extreme.

•Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration. This is why a few minutes of emotional expression in trance is worth hours in an alert state. Humans are so easily distracted, and the Conscious mind is forever making excuses for everything. In hypnosis, the conscious mind is set aside, and excuses are seen for what they are.

•Hypnosis is the state you enter into every time you watch a tv show you like, see a film you like, or sit down at the computer intending to only be there for 10 minutes… and suddenly it’s two hours later.

•Hypnosis also happens when humans fall in love, literally entranced.

What Hypnosis Is Not

•Hypnosis is not mind control.

•Hypnosis is not a royal proclamation.

•Hypnosis is not sleep. We use relaxation, not sleep, to enter hypnosis. You do not wake up from hypnosis, you emerge. And you already know exactly what emerging from hypnosis feels like! Remember the last time you went to the movies, loved the film, and at the end when the credits rolled, you suddenly “came to”? You just emerged from hypnosis. That’s exactly what it feels like, because that’s exactly what happened.

•Hypnosis is not being unconscious. You can hear everything that goes on around you during trance; you’re just not interested in it.

•Hypnosis is not relaxation. That’s just an optimal starting point.

•Hypnosis is not being drugged. However, one can easily mimic a drugged state in hypnosis, provided you have previously felt the effects of that drug. Your body remembers. This is useful for pain control.

•Hypnosis is not involuntary. Just as no one can make you enjoy a movie that fails to entrance you, no one can make you remain in hypnosis. I typically teach my clients self hypnosis on the very first session so that they know for certain that they can emerge whenever they like. Anyone can emerge from hypnosis instantly by making that their intention.

How Does It Actually Happen?

Hypnotists use methods we call techniques. These include Guided Imagery, Rescuing Events, The Forgiveness Pyramid, Parts, The Spa of Your Inner Mind, Upgrades, and Higher Mind, to mention a few.

The Last Word

The media uses hypnosis on you all the time. Aaaalllllllll the time. Advertisers have been known to employ hypnotists to assess the hypnotic potential of a given advertisement, and pay good money for it.

Everytime you watch tv and enjoy it, you go into a state of trance. Ditto listening to music, going to the movies, watching a DVD, hearing talk radio, reading a magazine, and so forth. When you don’t like a particular type of music, that is expressly because it fails to put you into the trance you listen to music for.

So here comes the big duh. Why should media have all the fun? Please visit your friendly neighborhood trance specialist and use hypnosis to further your own goals.

Ah, hypnosis. So easy you can do it with your eyes closed.

Richard Lifeswayz asked:

Hypnosis does indeed work and is used widely by many therapists to help people overcome phobias, lose weight, stop smoking and discontinue bad habits. Anyone can be hypnotized but some will be more susceptible to this trance like state than others. The hypnotic state is one that is trancelike and the actual word hypnosis is derived from a Greek word meaning ‘nervous sleep’. This is actually incorrect because when a person is hypnotized they are in state of consciousness that is difficult to define. Hypnotized people are aware yet unaware and their minds can be manipulated by the hypnotist. Suggestion is used while people are hypnotized for therapy to quit bad habits smoking, or other healing as mentioned above. So yes, the answer to does hypnosis really work is a positive one.

Why is there so much secrecy around hypnosis?

Many consider hypnosis a form of brainwashing and are totally against any form of hypnosis for this reason. In a hypnotized state a person is not fully in control of them selves and can thus be manipulated. You will also find that although there is tons of information it is difficult to really find out the true ways of learning how to hypnotize people because it can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Underground Hypnosis course are available but they will not come cheap for obvious reasons. It takes dedication to learn hypnosis techniques and this is a skill that must be used responsibly. A master hypnotist can hypnotize susceptible people quickly using underground hypnosis techniques and the average person can also learn self hypnotism to better their quality of life. Considering the above paragraph the answer does hypnosis really work is once again yes it certainly does.

Is self hypnosis effective and what is underground Hypnosis?

Many people have used self hypnosis to achieve their goals in sports, get promotions at work, better their health and well being and improve their relationships.  Underground hypnosis is a combination of hypnosis techniques, NLP Seduction, and asocial engineering that makes it possible to influence people. Underground hypnosis stirred a huge controversy a while ago and this is the reason that it has become a course that only a select few can get their hands on if they know where to find it. This hypnosis technique was also labeled black ops hypnosis, brainwashing, and was even labeled a scam. Those that invested in underground hypnosis will tell you otherwise but will rather keep mum about it. Hypnosis can be used to better your life and if you are shy, lack self confidence or an under achiever then you will do well to invest in learning covert underground hypnosis. Does underground hypnosis really work you will ask. To this question the answer is to find out for your self.

Off the Track Hypnosis

Information on hypnosis is vague and this is how the experts want to make it seem. When you read the many articles on hypnosis they will make it sound like it is not really worth pursuing. This is something they want everyone to believe and they have convinced people that hypnosis is not really something special and useless to the average person anyway. Interesting don’t you think?

Richard Osterude asked:

Hypnosis is a state in which conscious sleep is induced. The process of hypnosis involves a hypnotist and a subject (a person on whom Hypnosis is performed). The primary requirement for Hypnosis is it must be accepted by the subject. And then under the effect of Hypnosis, the subject is allegedly more recipient to suggestions and has greater access to his or her memories and emotions.

In a nutshell, hypnosis is sleep of the nervous system. So there is a decrease in the rate of respiration, decrease in blood circulation thus sluggish brain waves. Under the normal consciousness, the brain waves are at Beta wave level. However, with hypnosis, brain waves slow down to alpha waves than to theta waves. Delta waves are brain waves possible in children, & generally no adult can experience the slowing down to delta wave level.

Use of Hypnosis has been applied from the clinic to classroom and police station to any public place. The characteristics of Hypnosis are deep concentration and great relaxation. Hypnosis has a strange reputation. Freud, the father of repression, earlier used to practice hypnosis in therapy; he then stopped the use of hypnosis.

However, hypnosis is still popular. And it is safe.

The Hypnosis can be useful in addictions, pain relief, weight control, fear, quit smoking. However the success of hypnosis depends greatly on acceptance of subject.

Under the effect of Hypnosis the subject gets accessibility to his unconscious and subconscious mind, repressed memories even past life memories. There are lots of misconceptions regarding Hypnosis. It is considers as ‘Black Magic’ by some people. Science simply does not accept it. But Hypnosis exists.

What is Hypnosis?

It is a method that allows you to use your own inner power and hidden capabilities (the capabilities that you even don’t believe you possess). And:

• It can help you in getting freedom from phobias or anxieties.

• It can help you get rid of bad habits like eating unhealthy, smoking etc.

What Hypnosis is not?

• It is not possible even by any expert to take control of your mind using Hypnosis. Your permission- acceptance is must.

• Hypnosis can not make you tell secrets.

• Hypnosis is not dangerous.

• It is not ‘Black-Magic’ or any magic!

You can relate Hypnosis with trance, dream. You can be in trance unconsciously. You can be in trance while just lying on the bed or while traveling through familiar route, while reading a book, while seeing the movie. Hypnosis is similar trance so you need not fear of same. It brings you great relaxation.

Hypnosis can be used for:

1. Pin control

2. Weight control

3. Health eating

4. Helping you stop smoking or other habits

5. Overcoming phobias & anxieties

6. Suppressing pain during medical procedures

7. And more…

Hypnosis comes to your help in case some normal point of view or logical thinking becomes barrier in solving any problem of yours. It frees you from problems you want to while in conscious or subconscious state. Refer to this brief overview of Hypnosis for help to improve the quality of your life and the lives of your family, friends and others.

Michael McGrath asked:

Self hypnosis, to some, appears mystical or magical – a magical technique that can make people do things against their will and even perform acts without them knowing or remembering. Unfortunately this misguided view of self hypnosis stems from Hollywood depictions of evil hypnotists and government assassination plots.

Stage hypnosis in its current form has damaged the general view of self hypnosis as well. Although highly entertaining, stage hypnotism has damaged the reputation of hypnosis and weakened the generic view of this powerful mind tool.

Self hypnosis and hypnosis are just words used to describe an extremely relaxed state of body and highly focused state of mind. This relaxed state allows us to clear our minds of unwanted mind-clutter, worries and the constant mind chatter associated with them.

With the growing popularity of self hypnosis and the growing awareness of its capacity to create profound internal changes there is becoming a greater lack of understanding about the processes involved. In fact most people never realize that they enter states of self hypnosis regularly. You actually experience states of hypnotic trance many times throughout a normal day.

The one state that most people will most quickly and easily identify as a trance state is that of daydreaming. However, when you watch television read a book or become engaged in an engrossing conversation you are experiencing different degrees of the trance state. You also enter into this type of state just before you fall asleep and directly after awakening.

All hypnosis is self hypnosis, for in order to enter a hypnotic state you must willing give your consent to be hypnotized. No hypnotist can force you into trance!

Self hypnosis can be explained simply as a very relaxed state of body that is accompanied by a heightened sense of mental focus and concentration.

This of course means that hypnosis and self hypnosis are the exact same phenomenon and the fact that we all move in and out of trance states throughout the day means that everyoone is hypnotizable. Added to that, the fact that hypnosis is the same as self hypnosis, we realize that it is possible to use self hypnosis on someone else.

The first thing you need to do if you wish to hypnotize someone else is to experience the state yourself. You will make a much better hypnotist if you have personally experienced the profound peace and heightened focus of the trance state.

There are many great self hypnosis recordings available that can take you into trance within a very small amount of time. By using these recordings you will undergo trance yourself. When you know what it feels like to enter trance you will be more qualified to create it for another.

If you are interested in learning self hypnosis techniques to create trance in yourself and others it is advisable to get a good self hypnosis course. Techniques that you can use on yourself can easily be modified to be used on others. Having already experienced the trances state through pre-recorded sessions you will be better able to identify the processes involved when learning these techniques.

Finding the correct self hypnosis course is important. You need to ensure the course teaches the latest techniques in trance induction. Self hypnosis has moved rapidly into the 21st Century and uses 21st Century techniques and tools. The use binaural beats recordings can also heavily influence your sessions and greatly increase your chances of successfully inducing a trance state in yourself and others. Free binaural beats generators can be downloaded from the Internet and incorporated into your self hypnosis sessions by playing them in the background or listening to them through headphones.

Once you have found the correct course use the techniques on yourself before you try them on someone else. This will help you perfect your skills and the experience necessary to create deeper trance states in your hypnotic subjects.

Cal Banyan asked:

What can you do to make sure you get the most from you first hypnosis session? This is a very good question, because it is an important one for those seeking hypnosis or hypnotherapy services. An entire book or at least a chapter could be written on this topic. In this discussion I will narrow it down to two main factors that contribute to you getting the most out of your first hypnosis session.

The Hypnotherapist Should Help You To Feel Comfortable About Doing Hypnosis

By Telling You All You Need To Know About Hypnosis

The first important factor determining your success is your choice of hypnotherapist or hypnotherapy provider. Providing you have made a good choice and your hypnotherapist is well trained (i.e., A Certified Hypnotherapist), she will know how to help you to be prepared for your first session by providing you a sufficient amount of information about hypnosis, hypnotherapy, her experience and credentials, as well as what to expect during the session, basically everything that you need to find out to put you at ease.

For most people receiving this kind of information is and important part of the process, because any experienced hypnotherapist can tell you, proper preparation of clients prior to the hypnosis session improves success. It improves success because preparing a client for the session helps to reduce concerns about the hypnosis process and set up an appropriate expectation of what to expect the hypnotic experience to feel like. Any fear of being hypnotized will always reduce the probability of success of any hypnosis session. An individual who has a realistic expectation of what the experience of being hypnotized will be like, will feel more comfortable and satisfied with the experience, during and after the session.

What You Can Do To Get The Most Out Of A Hypnosis Session

The next main factor that will contribute to the success in your first hypnosis session of course is you, and how you mentally approach the session. Presuming that your hypnotherapist has done her job well as discussed above, and you have asked all the questions you feel you need to ask, you should feel comfortable with experiencing hypnosis.

Here is what you need to do, you need to adopt an easy going accepting attitude for following instructions.

Almost all hypnotic inductions contain some suggestions for relaxation. Even the instant and rapid inductions have some kind of suggestion for relaxation. However, contrary to popular opinion, physical relaxation is not required for hypnosis to occur. It has become my opinion, after conducting thousands of hypnosis sessions, as well as supervising and training hypnotherapists who have conducted thousands more, that the physical relaxation is only encouraged (through suggestion) so that a kind of mental relaxation can occur. This mental relaxation is a major part of what helps you to experience the benefits of hypnosis.

This mental relaxation is sometimes called “contention.” This “conte”tion? does not have anything to do with conflict or tension. In fact it is quite the opposite. This “conte”tion? is a mental state where, it is as if the person in hypnosis is hanging on the hypn’tist?s every word. In the Dave Elman-type inductions, there comes a point where the client is asked to “relax her mind until the numbers fade away.” When the numbers have faded away, as a result of relaxing the mind, we have guided our clients into this highly relaxed state of mind, and as a result, they can become highly suggestible, and be able to experience virtually every kind of hypnotic phenomena, from catalepsy to hypnotically induced anesthesia.

The hypnotist or hypnotherapist cannot relax your mind. She is in the role of a coach or teacher. The hypnotic induction is a way of helping you to first (generally), relax your body, and then use that relaxation as a model for relaxing your mind and creating the hypnotic state. When you follow the instructions of the hypnotherapist, your conscious mind become less critical of the instructions and suggestions given. Once this has been accomplished your hypnotherapist can help you become successful for whatever you came in to see a hypnotherapist for. So, it is essential that you do not, over analyze the instructions. Analysis and mental criticism is the opposite of the mental relaxation you want to create. Just as muscle tension is the opposite of physical relaxation, mental work such as rationalization and analysis is the opposite of mental relaxation.

Now we return to the idea of adopting an easy-going accepting mental attitude. Analysis and criticism is equivalent to mental work. If you are doing mental work, you are not relaxing the mind and not relaxing the mind will inhibit you going as deeply into hypnosis as you could otherwise. The deeper you allow yourself to go into hypnosis, the more benefit you will receive from each hypnosis session.

How I Helped To Make My First Hypnosis Session Successful

Let me give you and example. Even though I learned how to do hypnosis many years ago, it was only about 5 years ago when I decided that it would be beneficial for me to have the experience of being hypnotized by someone else. Up to that point, I was always the hypnotist; I had never been the “subject.” So, I contacted a hypnotherapist that I did know personally (I thought that would put me more at ease), and arranged a session to work on something that was important to me at the time.

As I sat waiting for my meeting with the hypnotherapist, some anxiety (fear) started to set in. I was not afraid of hypnosis. I was not afraid of the hypnotherapist; she came to me highly recommended by someone that I highly trusted. I was afraid that I would mess the whole thing up! I was afraid that I would be too analytical and be too focused on how she was conducting the session to allow the process of mental relaxation to occur. I was concerned that I would not allow contention; that I would not be able to put aside my analytical rational thinking long enough to experience what I hoped to experience.

It was then that I sat down and had a little talk with myself. It went something like this” “Okay, do you really want to do this or not? This is going to cost $80.00. Don’t go ahead with this unless you are willing to follow instructions. Only you can get in the way of having some success here. So, what are you going to do? I know you are a trained scientist. I know you are a little stubborn. I know you like to be in charge and in control, but you can’t do that right now, that is not how it works. It is going to cost you $80.00 no matter how it goes.”

Then it happened. I decided, that I was going to be the best hypnotic subject that this hypnotist had ever seen! It was just a decision. But it was just the decision that I needed to make.

I had just decided that I was going to give her a chance to do her work. I was going to allow her to be in charge for a little while. I was going to follow her instructions and just adopt an easy-going accepting attitude for what ever she suggested. And, when I wasn’t sure of what to do or of what she was doing, I was going to relax entirely and give her the benefit of the doubt!

Was I doing this for her sake? No. How well I did in the hypnosis session was going to have very little effect on her life (she was going to make $80. 00 regardless). I was there because there was something that I wanted to accomplish, and the only way I was going to be able to accomplish that was to follow her instructions and to adopt that easy-going accepting mental attitude.

And, that is just what I did. I had a great hypnosis session; which included a hypnotic age regression to when I was so small I hadn’t even walked yet! It was a profound experience and an important part of my education as a hypnotherapist.

So, what can you do to make the most of your upcoming hypnosis session? Sit down and have a little talk with yourself, and then decide to adopt that easy-going accepting mental attitude, and to follow all of the instructions of your hypnotherapist without rationalizing or analyzing, really let your mind relax like your body can relax, and you will have done your part! Then you will get the very most out of your hypnosis session. That is my advice.
